The series contains the railroad property tax correspondence files of the Division of Ad Valorem Tax, and its predecessors, the Dept. of Revenue and the Railroad Assessment Board, from 1962-1981. The bulk of the material is from 1975-1981. The correspondence primarily relates to the tangible property tax and operating property tax assessment. The Florida East Coast Railway and Seaboard Coast Line Railroad are two of the major railroad companies represented. The series includes correspondence, maps, legal documents, reports and photographs.

The Division of Ad Valorem Tax was created in 1972 (Ch. 72-266, Laws) as part of the Dept. of Revenue. The Division assumed the duties of the Railroad Assessment Board, created in 1957 (Ch. 57-296, Laws), and some of the functions carried out by the Comptroller's Office, created in 1838 (Article III, Section 23, 1838 Constitution).
